Yeah, I almost had a heart attack when I saw this the first time too.  If you look closely you can see the weld where the dynamo cracked the cylinder head.  You can also see the little wood block that tries to hold up the hood hinge.  The brake master cylinder is around somewhere, but will be replaced with a dual circuit system.  I'll also pay special attention to reinforcing the pedal box.  Looks like there are small holes on the far side of the engine compartment for an external oil filter.  I don't know who sprayed the cam cover black, but we'll save correcting that as one of the finishing touches.  Aside from the original block, I'm really not sure how much I will try to salvage from here.
