Lotus Elite Type 14

Restoration

November 2001

Although the water temp/oil pressure gauge is missing here, it's lying around somewhere.  All the gauges are original except the tach, which was borrowed from a Lotus Cortina but fits right in.  I removed the pencil-thin ZF gearshift knob and brought it home for an afternoon restoration project.  Note the bungie cord on the passenger door handle.  That's the only way to keep the door closed at the moment.  I don't think the mirror is original, but could be wrong.  You can also see some of the jute sound insulation.  Aside from the Royalite door liners, most of the interior trim will be removed from the racecar.  The "umbrella" handbrake was a Series II innovation, perhaps not the most fortunate, but probably not worth the effort to convert to the Series I "fly-off" style.
